Sigiriya
Sigiriya (Lion's rock),is an ancient rock fortress and palace ruin situated in the central Matale District of Sri Lanka, surrounded by the remains of an extensive network of gardens, reservoirs, and other structures. A popular tourist destination, Sigiriya is also renowned for its ancient paintings (frescos)which are reminiscent of the Ajanta Caves of India. It is one of the seven World Heritage Sites of Sri Lanka.Sigiriya may have been inhabited through prehistoric times. It was used as a rock-shelter mountain monastery from about the 5th century BC, with caves prepared and donated by devotees to the Buddhist Sangha. According to the chronicles as Mahavamsa the entire complex was built by King Kashyapa (AD 477 – 495), and after the king's death, it was used as a Buddhist monastery until 14th century.

Minneriya National Park is situated in the north-central plains of Sri Lanka, 20 kilometers from Polonnaruwa. The park encompasses the beautiful Minneriya tank, built by King Mahasena (in 3rd century AD). This tank is an incredible place to observe the elephants that come to bathe and graze on the grasses as well as the huge flocks of birds (cormorants, painted storks, open-bills, Pelicans and many other species of waders) that come to fish in the shallow waters. Major attractions of Dambulla, include the largest and best preserved cave temple complex and temple paintings of Sri Lanka. Thereafter we proceed to Kandy via Matale. At Matale you will visit a spice garden where you will see many different types of spices for which Sri Lanka is famous. Just 25 km from the hill capital of Kandy, the Matale spice gardens are among the best on the island. You will be introduced to different spices and shown how some of these spices are grown and processed. A processing and training unit has been set up in the area and farmers are grouped in a cooperative to ensure fair prices and you will also be able to purchase spices.

Kandy is a city in the center of Sri Lanka. It was the last capital of the ancient kings' of Sri Lanka. The city lies in the midst of hills in the Kandy plateau, which has an area of tropical plantations, mainly tea. It is both an administrative and religious center. It is the capital of the Central Province (which encompasses the districts of Kandy, Matale and Nuwara Eliya) and also of Kandy District. Kandy is the home of The Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa) one of the most revered places of worship for the Buddhist community of Sri Lanka and Buddhists all around the world. It was declared a world heritage by the UNESCO in 1988.
